The Comedies
14 of Shakespeare's 36 plays published in the First Folio of 1623 were classed as comedies. Some,
like The Tempest and The Winter's Tale, we might not think of as obvious comedies today, but
in Shakespeare's time a play was considered a comedy if it was not a history or a tragedy. All Shakespeare's comedies
have a happy ending, except Love's Labour's Lost, which was perhaps intended to have a sequel. The comedies, as listed
in the First Folio, are:
