About this Website

This is a website dedicated to the life and reign of Queen Elizabeth I (1533-1603). It contains biographical information about the Tudor monarch and articles about her life and times.

Over the last couple of years this website has been slimmed down so is not as extensive as it once was. This is mainly due to the difficulties in maintaining such a large website but also due to changes made to affiiiate programs, like amazon, that have made a number of sections unfunctional. Other pages were simply out of date.

This website is written and managed by myself, Heather Shanette. I have an M.Phil in Tudor history from Bangor University, Wales, where I spent a decade as a postgraduate researcher and occasional teacher. I am the author of Elizabeth I's Ladies, Gentlewomen and Maids: The Women who Served the Tudor Queen (Pen and Sword, 2025).
